DESCRIPTION

Welcome as you are. A ski touring weekend in Handöl for those who want to get far from lifts, queues and everyday life – and home to a cozy warm house with comfortable beds, get to know a small group of like-minded people and take the time to enjoy good food. You don’t need any prior knowledge or equipment, ski touring package included. If we’re lucky, the northern lights dance in the sky and brighten up our evening.

There is a special freedom in putting on your touring skis and heading out to a mountain that is empty. Leaving the road behind, following the weather and snow of the day and letting the skis carry us everywhere on the mountain. A backpack with coffee and warm clothes. Creaking February snow. Silence and freedom.
This weekend we are doing just that: we are heading out into Handöl’s garden as I usually call it, far from lifts, queues and must-haves. The trip is suitable for those who want the mountains outside their door, days on skis and cottage coziness when darkness falls.
Simply skiing without all the damn achievements. We are not chasing altitude meters, no record times or perfecting technique. We are. Together in a small group.

We have our own quiet sanctuary. Here, our days begin and end in warmth and comfort: with breakfast before we head out, hot showers and sauna rituals to get us down to speed, and real beds to sink into when our legs have had their fill.

The days on skis are adjusted to the weather, snow conditions and the group. We go at a pace that allows for both mountain experience and rest, stopping for lunch and coffee with swedish fika. We take advantage of the places that the day offers. If the weather is bad, we sneak into a hut and make a fire. If the sun is shining, we cozy up in a sun pit. Along the way, I share tips on technique, clothing, route selection, planning and things that make the trip both safer and more enjoyable.

When we get home again, rest and dinner await. Tthree-course dinners with local ingredients and flavors from the mountains, Jämtland, Sapmi and the border with Norway. After a day of skiing, there is something special about sitting down at a laid table, eating for a long time and letting the day’s experiences sink in. Nothing rounds off a cold winter day like a lovely sauna, for those who want to.

The recovery, the tranquility and the rhythm of the mountains are an obvious part of the weekend. A small group of a maximum of 8 participants brightens the days, gives us the opportunity to get to know each other and makes the experience family-like.
